Medicaid Benefits Will Not Be Terminated During Current Public Health Emergency

In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) has determined that it will not terminate an individual’s Medicaid benefits during the public health emergency.  This applies to individuals who may have received a notice terminating benefits effective March 31, 2020.  For those individuals, they will receive a new notice continuing benefits until after the public health emergency.  For more information on this policy change and other policy changes recently made by the FSSA, click here.

Any time the FSSA notifies an individual that it intends to reduce or eliminate Medicaid benefits, we typically recommend that the individual immediately appeal if the individual believes the notice is incorrect.  Despite FSSA’s temporary policy change, any time the FSSA receives an appeal no later than close of business on the day prior to the effective date of the proposed action, an individual’s benefits will continue without change pending appeal. This will ensure that individual will not have a break in coverage while waiting on an appeal decision.  It will also allow the individual time to investigate the decision further without interruption of benefits. If you need assistance with filing an appeal or representation in the appeals process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
